Downy “Touch of Comfort” Event in New York City
by admin ~ May 4, 2010
Today, a group of 10 volunteer members of the national organization Las Comadres came together in New York City’s East Harlem Cafe to share their quilting stories and proudly showcase their handmade quilts. Three of the Comadres brought their quilts to share with the group and others learned about the process of how to get involved with the Downy “Touch of Comfort” program and vowed to make a quilt themselves.
Earlier this year, Downy joined Quilts for Kids, Inc. to create the “Touch of Comfort” campaign. Across the country, large networks of Latinas through Las Comadres, a non-profit organization that was formed ten years ago to bring Latinas with common interests together in major cities, are contributing to the program, giving their time and effort to make quilts. Quilts for Kids delivers hand-made quilts to children in Children’s Hospitals Miracle Network throughout the country - they have a goal of delivering 10, 000 quilts this year.
