Barbara Corcoran: Starting Out as a Nobody in a Somebody Town
by jill ~ October 2, 2009
Last week, Mediashop hosted a Forbes Video shoot at our office for our friends at Red Real Estate and the Barbara Corcoran. It was a thrill to meet Barbara (she said we could call her that - and yes, Barbara - we’ve rearranged our office as you suggested!).
America’s Most Promising Companies is a new Forbes.com channel devoted to assessing the current environment of young entrepreneurship. This channel is a compilation of distinct video series, featured articles, and business profiles that build up to a list of the most promising small businesses in the nation.
In this segment, Celebrity Mentor Barbara Corcoran advised the entrepreneurs/small business owners of Red Real Estate and discussed important points of interest and suggestions for success for starting out in the real estate industry. Barbara was truly inspiring and I was particularly moved by her thoughts about “making your mark” in New York City. She said the hardest part in the beginning was starting out as a “nobody” in a “somebody” town, but goes on to say, “The City doesn’t give a damn who you are and where you’re from. All they care about is what you can do- and what you can do for me lately. You have a huge advantage starting out here - [New York] is a town that’s totally open to the newcomer and totally open to change.” If you can brand yourself and produce results for your clients or customers, you can succeed.
