ProfNets of the Week
by admin ~ September 4, 2009
It’s time again to take a look at some of the strange and interesting queries from ProfNet, a service that sends us journalist queries and calls for sources dozens of times throughout the day. Enjoy!
ETIQUETTE/TODAY: What to Wear to a Beach Bar - Cloaked
A journalist with a Northeast daily sends the following query: As summertime shore crowds move from the beach to the evening, is it okay to wear swimwear (bikinis, trunks, etc.) to a beach bar? I’m seeking etiquette advice, and dos and don’ts. How skimpy is too skimpy? Does it change the social dynamic when folks are chatting one another up while dressed that way? (Note: Some bars in our area are beach-side bars where there’s no built-in dress code.)
POP CULTURE: Where Have All the Lunchboxes Gone? — Albany Times Union (NY)
Remember your first lunch box? It was probably metal or plastic with your favorite character decorating the front. Oh, and the Thermos. We cannot forget the matching Thermos. Take a trip down the store aisles today and the lunchbox selection is nil, replaced by non-descriptive cooler-bags that don’t have the same value, or identity, that lunchboxes of the 1970s or ’80s held. People growing up in the ’70s or ’80s all remember their first lunchbox. Kids now, though, don’t have that. Are lunchboxes no longer “in” or “cool”? What has replaced the lunchbox as that one thing kids carry to really show their interest, or pride? And, more importantly, what caused the death of the lunchbox and what does this mean about our kids/society? Contact:XXXXXXX
