Obamarama

For most people, the first day on the job is filled with tension, uncomfortable, and awkward. Yet today was the first day of work for the 44th president of the United States. But if Obama is the newbie of the office, it’s quite apparent that he’s already been to the staff party, mingled with the clients, and shared a dirty joke with the boss.

American’s all over the country have been on the Obama craze since Election day; For that, say thank you to the press. Media coverage on Obama has been everywhere from respectable Newspaper publication to trashy tabloid magazines. He’s been on t-shirts, coins, pins, collectors cards, and every other possible marketable commodity.

Even here at MediaShop, one glance at the walls will reveal exactly what top editors feel make successful covers. From the Economist to Timeout New York, almost every issue has Obama’s face so close up you could count the pores. Yet public opinion remains high, people seem to eat it up. Ratings for the inauguration alone reached record highs, the highest since the Reagan Inauguration, says the Huffington Post.

It seems that Obama can do no wrong and the coverage of him can never be too much. Americans seem truly in love.  Yet questions remains: are we in love with Barack because of what he stands for or because of how media stands for him?
