What do Manhattan Closets and Sarah Palin Have in Common?

Ask Manhattan Mini Storage.

I’ve been walking past this ad for a few days now without paying much notice, but it is on quite a few phone booths along Broadway on the Upper West Side.  This morning I actually looked up and took a minute to read the thing and of course had to chuckle.  For a moment I wondered if it was real.  I had never seen a storage company get political in its ads, but apparently that is because I’m new to Manhattan…Manhattan Mini storage actually has quite a record.

As reported in this New York Sun (RIP) article, the political storage ads have been going on for quite some time and have caught quite a bit of attention.  You can see some previous ones here here .  Not only have Republican politics fallen victim to Manhattan Mini Storage, but also the entertainment world, including Paris Hilton.

I think this is definitely a bold advertising move, but Manhattan Mini Storage has been using this tactic for a while now despite much protest from certain groups.  They appear to be going with the “all publicity is good publicity” motto, and in that case, it seems to be working.  You don’t really see storage companies in the news a whole lot and I certainly don’t remember the advertisements of any other storage company.   Is it worth the customers they maybe be offending in the Republican Party?  You’ll have to ask them, but I can probably predict what their answer will be.
