A Good Way to Start Your Day

Starbucks has made a wise decision. I may not be a big fan of their $5 coffee but I am a fan of the new “Good Sheet” feature they recently added.

According to this article in The New York Times, consumers will now be offered a free folded piece of paper that provides information and statistics emphasizing philanthropy and activism. It comes at a good time as we are nearing the presidential election. “The sheet on health care, for example, gives a history of government health care programs, statistics about health care spending, and suggestions about solutions, including notes on those that John McCain and Barack Obama endorse.”

These sheets were created so that they could be used as conversation starters. Better yet, for people like me who could use a quick reference when it comes to politics, these sheets familiarize consumers with some important issues.  Good Sheets get there name from the magazine Good, whose mission is to provide content, experiences, and utilities to better serve the community.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to escape the marketers and advertisers, but they are kept to a minimum. There will only be one advertisement per issue. I’d much rather see something like the Good Sheet instead of useless marketing knickknacks that are a mere waste of space!
