Use Your Head

When I was growing up I can’t tell you how many times my parents said “use your head” in response to my queries, but I don’t think this is what they had in mind.According to New Zealand news site stuff.co.nz, Air New Zealand has found a new way to make use of the time people spend in line staring at the backs of each other’s heads. The airline will be hiring “Crainial Billboards” who will be compensated $1,000 to shave their heads and sport temporary tattoos alerting customers to updates in the airline’s check-in systems.
The article explains:
“‘Check-in queues have become a fact of life that travelers begrudgingly accept. You end up staring at the back of people’s heads, waiting for the line to move forward.”
“So how better to tell our customers that Air New Zealand is going to do something about it at our three main domestic airports, than through messaging they can read while they’re standing in a queue themselves?’ said Air New Zealand’s General Manager Marketing Steve Bayliss.”
This is definitely an interesting approach that will catch people’s attention, but it seems a bit odd they’re using this for airline updates. Personally, if I’m looking for information on a flight, I’m certainly going to trust the big LED sign on the airport wall before I read it off of someone’s head.
It’ll be interesting to see how this works out for them. I’m sure it will garner at least a chuckle and draw attention to the airline, if nothing else. And if you live in New Zealand and think your dome is worthy of the Air NZ stamp, you can attend their open casting call next week!
