To Do: Target in Manhattan!

by jill ~ September 10, 2008

If you love Target as much as I do, you’ll want to check out the temporary pop-up “bodegas” Target is sponsoring September 12 - 15 at four locations around the city.  Check out more information here.

For those who don’t live here (or don’t know), bodegas are an integral part of life in the city.  They offer pretty much anything you could need at any hour of the day or night.  The owner of my corner bodega may know more about me than does my therapist - ok, maybe not but he definitely sees me more and I know every member of his family.

The “Bullseye Bodegas” are making a splash in the media, and it is an interesting concept.  7-11 just made its debut here in New York a few years ago, but it’s my guess that the family bodegas are less expensive to maintain/stock/serve than a big national chain.  I wonder how a store like Target might fare - and if they really want to get into the business of running 24-hour stores.  Basically my only requirment/request is that they serve fountain soda, so we’ll see how it plays out.

Interesting concept nonetheless… check out some of the coverage:
