Roof-Breaking at City Ice Pavilion
by jill ~ July 17, 2008
Today was the official groundbreaking at The City Ice Pavilion - New York City’s newest ice skating rink, and the only roof-top rink in the city. As Erik Ekstein said when opening up the press conference, “it’s one of the coolest things to happen on one of the hottest days of the year.”
The City Ice Pavilion is located in Long Island City (right across the 59th Street/Queensborough Bridge) and is scheduled to open in early October 2008. The rink will feature public skating, an ice skating school for ice hockey training and figure skating, private lessons and skills clinics for children and adults of all skill levels. The City Ice Pavilion will be made available for use by local high school teams, intramural leagues and individuals. For more information, please visit: http://www.cityicepavilion.com/
City Councilman Eric Gioia (D-Long Island City); the New York Rangers’ all-time leading scorer Rod Gilbert; Vice President of New York Amateur Skating Association Paul Lloyd, and Founder and President of Ekstein Development Erik Ekstein attended the press conference this morning to inaugurate the City Ice Pavilion.
