Vladimir Putin - Time’s Person of the Year
by admin ~ December 19, 2007
With all of the hype surrounding Time’s Person of the Year, it’s interesting to see that they chose Vladimir Putin. For the very interesting article on why they chose him, see this story.
They make it pretty clear that they aren’t “honoring” him:
“TIME’s Person of the Year is not and never has been an honor. It is not an endorsement. It is not a popularity contest. At its best, it is a clear-eyed recognition of the world as it is and of the most powerful individuals and forces shaping that world—for better or for worse. It is ultimately about leadership—bold, earth-changing leadership.”
But honestly, I think that’s just pandering to a less risqué-inclined audience who would have preferred it be J.K. Rowling (”for getting kids to read,” as I heard on the Today Show earlier this week).
